Ryanair (FR) Baggage Allowance Calculator

For Ryanair flights, your carry-on must measure at most 55×40×20 cm and weigh no more than 10 kg — the sizer at the gate is the arbiter, not the check-in agent. Weigh your bag at home and budget a 0.5 kg margin for souvenirs: Ryanair charges for every kilogram of checked weight beyond 20 kg.

In addition to the main carry-on, Ryanair allows one personal item under the seat — the usual place for valuables, electronics and medications.

The checked allowance on Ryanair is 20 kg per standard bag, and the $30 fee doubles at the airport counter. Additional bags cost $60 USD each on Ryanair; bag dimensions should total no more than 158 cm (62 in) linear — most standard suitcases comply.

Overweight charges on Ryanair start above 20 kg at $10 USD per kg; items between 20 and 30 kg typically incur a flat surcharge instead.

Two fee lines dominate a Ryanair excess bill: $60 for each additional checked bag and $10 per kilogram above 20 kg. A 28 kg bag on Ryanair's 20 kg allowance costs $80 in overweight charges alone — the table below compares that against simply adding a second bag at $60.

Pre-book additional bags online — airport-side rates on Ryanair are 40–60% higher, and same-day changes at the counter may not be available at all.

On Ryanair (FR), sports gear travels only as a pre-booked, pre-paid special item with its own fee and size caps — turning up at the counter with skis unannounced means airport-rate charges or refusal. Guitars and cellos are the awkward case on Ryanair: either buy them a seat or check them in a hard case — soft cases are not covered for damage.

Assistive devices are always free on Ryanair (FR): wheelchairs, scooters and walkers are accepted at the gate and returned aircraft-side wherever feasible.
