Qantas (QF) Baggage Allowance Calculator

For Qantas flights, your carry-on must measure at most 56×36×23 cm and weigh no more than 7 kg — the sizer at the gate is the arbiter, not the check-in agent. The 7 kg carry-on weight limit on Qantas is enforced at check-in and at the gate — leave a little room for purchases.

Personal items travel free in addition to the carry-on on Qantas (QF) — a handbag or small laptop bag under the seat is never counted against your allowance.

The checked allowance on Qantas is 30 kg per standard bag — bag-inclusive fares are one of this carrier's quiet value levers. Extra checked bags on Qantas price at $70 USD each online; at the counter, expect 40–60% more for the identical bag.

Qantas includes the first checked bag — a differentiator on longer trips. Overweight pricing runs $10/kg past 30 kg either way.

Two fee lines dominate a Qantas excess bill: $70 for each additional checked bag and $10 per kilogram above 30 kg. Compare strategies before paying: a second 18 kg bag at $70 often beats $10/kg overweight on one heavy case — the calculator tests both configurations for Qantas (QF).

Repack before you pay: splitting weight across two bags at $70 each frequently undercuts overweight fees on Qantas, and online pre-booking undercuts the counter by 40–60%.

Skis, golf clubs and bikes count as ordinary checked bags on Qantas up to 30 kg; oversize items above 158 cm linear may incur a flat $75–150 surcharge. Instruments under 8 kg and within carry-on dimensions may travel in the Qantas cabin; larger instruments need either a bought seat or checked handling — Qantas recommends hard-shell cases and a declaration at check-in.

Pack fragile and valuable items carefully — Qantas's liability for damage to improperly packed special items is limited, and hard-shell cases settle most disputes before they start.
